Dyfed-Powys Police serves more than half a million residents across the largest policing area in England and Wales. Increasing use of body-worn video and CCTV systems created greater demand for network bandwidth. Network upgrades increased available bandwidth by more than 100 times, enabling faster transfer of digital evidence.
The Challenge
Dyfed-Powys Police serves more than 500,000 people across one of the largest policing areas in England and Wales. Increasing use of technologies such as body-worn video and CCTV placed additional demand on network bandwidth. Uploading video footage was slow, which meant officers spent more time transferring files.
This reduced the time officers could spend working in their communities. Improving bandwidth and network performance therefore became essential.
The Solution
We upgraded network circuits to significantly increase bandwidth capacity. Connection speeds increased from 0.5 Mbps to 100 Mbps, enabling much faster upload and transfer of video footage. This supports the use of body-worn cameras and improved CCTV systems.
Officers can now upload evidence more quickly when they return to police stations. The improved network infrastructure also supports the transfer of video evidence to partners within the criminal justice system.

Outcome: Strengthened Security
Outcomes and benefits
Investment in upgrading our core network helps us to offer better policing today, and readies DPP to play our part in the National Enabling Programme. When our community needs us, we can respond quickly and efficiently knowing we have the tools our officers need to get the job done in an ever-evolving environment. Working with PSBA is critical – it’s what will enable our officers to connect securely, and reliably, to our network while away from HQ/stations.
